In MN it was 3.2 or Hamm's for me most of the time, not hard liquor, and Craft beer when I could afford it. Mead is not my favorite, but I recommend not heating away the flavor of the honey. A good recipe: red clover, honey bees and bears, H2O. Yeast, champagne. At least a one gallon glass jug. 1.5 cups of honey per 1 gallon. Don't boil. If you don't have a way to release the CO2 pressure from the yeast consuming the sugar the jug or carboy will break. It's a mess to clean up. Honey is a preservative.
